Argentina finally achieve their dream of winning the world cup again, after 36 years of trying! Many teams contributed to the success of Argentina, but lets take a look at the teams with mythological links that were involved. 4 teams with links to mythology gave players to Argentina: Olympique Lyonnais, Roma, Juventus and Atalanta! And a special mention to Olympique de Marseille which gave players to the French team.
Now lets take a closer look. Olympique Lyonnais gave 1 player, Roma gave 1, Juventus gave 2, and Atalanta had 3 former players playing for Argentina, including the ex-captain of Atalanta : Alejandro “Papu” Gomez.
Olympique Lyonnais (named from the Olympic glory to Zeus) gave Tagliafico to Argentina (who was a former player of Ajax, the club named after the Trojan War hero)
Roma (which feature Romulus and Remus, sons of Ares, on their logo) gave Paulo Dybala to Argentina. Dybala even scored a goal in the penalty shootout!
Juventus (named after Juventas, the daughter of Zeus) gave Angel Di Maria and Leandro Paredes to Argentina, and both of them scored in the final!
Atalanta (named after the huntress of Artemis), had three ex-players on the Argentina team: ex-Atalanta captain Papu Gomez, Cristian Romero and even Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni
