Aquarius

Aquarius is linked to the story of Ganymedes, who was placed in the sky as the constellation Aquarius.

Aquarius is the eleventh sign of the zodiac, representing a water bearer who pours out blessings onto humanity. It is associated with the element of air, the planet Uranus, and the colors blue and turquoise. People born under this sign are said to be original, innovative, humanitarian, and independent.

Aquarius has its origins in several myths and legends from different cultures, but the most common one is based on a Greek myth about Ganymede, a handsome young prince of Troy. According to the myth, Ganymede was spotted by Zeus, the king of the gods, while he was tending his father’s sheep on Mount Ida. Zeus was so captivated by his beauty that he decided to abduct him and make him his cupbearer. He transformed himself into an eagle and swooped down to carry Ganymede away to Olympus.

Ganymede was not happy with his new role as a slave and a toy for Zeus. He missed his home and his freedom. He also angered Hera, Zeus’s wife, who was jealous of his relationship with her husband. To appease Ganymede, Zeus gave him two gifts: immortality and a place among the stars. He also made him the bearer of the water of life that gives eternal youth to the gods. He placed him in the sky as the constellation Aquarius, holding a large urn from which he pours out water.

Another version of the myth connects Aquarius with Deucalion, the son of Prometheus and the survivor of a great flood that Zeus sent to punish humanity for its wickedness. Deucalion and his wife Pyrrha were the only ones who escaped the flood by building an ark and floating on it for nine days and nights. When they landed on Mount Parnassus, they consulted an oracle who told them to repopulate the earth by throwing stones over their shoulders. The stones turned into men and women who became their descendants.

Deucalion was also associated with water and rain, as he was said to have invented wells and irrigation systems. He was revered as a wise and just king who ruled over Thessaly for many years. He was honored by Zeus who placed him in the sky as Aquarius, pouring water onto the earth to nourish it.

Aquarius is a fascinating and inspiring zodiac sign that reflects many aspects of human nature and culture. It is a symbol of creativity and innovation that can bring new ideas and solutions to the world. It is a symbol of freedom and independence that can challenge authority and convention. It is a symbol of generosity and compassion that can share its gifts and resources with others.
