Aries (Golden Ram/Fleece)

Aries has its origins in a Greek myth about Phrixus and Helle, the children of King Athamas and the nymph Nephele. She convinced Athamas that there was a famine in the land and that he had to sacrifice Phrixus to appease the gods.
Nephele was distraught by this plan and prayed to Zeus to save her son. Zeus heard her plea and sent a flying ram with golden fleece to rescue Phrixus and Helle. The ram carried them on its back and flew across the sea. However, Helle lost her grip and fell into the water, which was later named the Hellespont after her.
Phrixus managed to reach Colchis, a kingdom on the eastern shore of the Black Sea. He was welcomed by King Aeetes, who gave him his daughter Chalciope as a wife. Phrixus sacrificed the ram to Zeus and gave its golden fleece to Aeetes as a gift. Aeetes hung the fleece on a tree in a sacred grove guarded by a dragon.
The golden fleece became a symbol of power and wealth that many heroes sought to obtain. The most famous of them was Jason, who led the Argonauts on a quest to retrieve it. Jason succeeded in his mission with the help of Medea, Aeetes’ other daughter who fell in love with him.
