New Tyrannosaurus discovered wrongly named after Greek God of Peaceful Death : Thanatos

Published by Hellenic Moon on

A new species of Tyrannosaurus has been discovered in Canada and it was named after the Greek God of peaceful death, Thanatos. What the scientists did not realize when they named the Tyrannosaurus Thanatotheristis (Reaper of Death in their view) was that Thanatos was the Greek God of peaceful death, which is not what they meant to say.

The scientists wanted to imply that the Tyrannosaurus was as scary as the god of death, Thanatos, but they did not know they are talking about the wrong god. Thanatos was the god of peaceful death and was viewed in a good light as the best way to die. Read more about Thanatos here:

What the scientists really meant to name the deadly Tyrannosaurus was Keres, the spirits of violent death. Keretheristis would have meant the Reaper of Violent Death, a much more appropriate name. Read more about the Keres here:

We will soon launch a petition to urge the researches to rename the Tyrannosaurus to a more accurate name. Check back on HellenicMoon.com for more info soon!
