July 15 : Pete Sampras inducted into Tennis Hall of Fame

Published by Hellenic Moon on

On this day in 2007, Petros “Pete” Sampras was inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame.

With his 14 Grand Slam wins (a record at his retirement in 2002), Pete Sampras is still 4th in the list of all-time winners. And he will probably stay there for a while as the most any currently active players has is 3. Sampras still holds various records in tennis.

The match between Pete Sampras and Roger Federer in Wimbledon 2001 (their only meeting) is widely considered the “change of the guard” in tennis, with Federer winning against his icon and going on to eventually overtaking him in total Grand Slams.
