Greek myths in Avatar
In just 2 weeks after releasing on Dec. 15, Avatar 2 surpassed Top Gun and became the highest grossing film of 2022, and is also the 9th highest grossing film of all time. Among the many influences you will find in Avatar, there are some pretty important references to Greek mythology.
The action takes place on Pandora, a moon of the planet Polyphemus, named after the giant from the Odyssey that ate Ulysses’ crew. These names were chosen with a deeper meaning, because they signify danger (Pandora being the one who unleashed all sorts of evil in the world when she opened Pandora’s jar).
