Greece at the Oscars 2024 edition out now for World Theater Day!

Published by Hellenic Moon on

Today, to celebrate World Theater Day, we are releasing the 2024 edition of our book, Greece at the Oscars. This book, which we update annually, features all the Oscar-winning or nominated movies that have a Greek connection to them, which we explain movie by movie. This year’s update adds more than 45 new movies to the book, bringing the total to over 250 movies. It also adds new sections to the book and various other improvements. Our book is available on all Amazon stores, so search for it on the Amazon store nearest to you. Or you can visit the US Amazon page of Greece at the Oscars.

We chose to release the update on World Theater Day to celebrate the Greek origins of theater, which started back in ancient Greece as a religious festival held in honor of Dionysus. Long before the Oscars existed the Greeks celebrated the City Dionysia and the annual Lenaia, festivals of theater and arts that gave awards to the best performances, much like the Oscars do today. To celebrate this, we are giving away Greece at the Oscars as a free Amazon Kindle download, but that is just for today. If you are in time to get it, all you have to do is “buy” the Amazon Kindle version for $0 and then you can use it. Please remember to leave an Amazon review if you get it!

If you want to learn more about the history of theater and how it started in ancient Greece, check out our old blog post about Greek theater. To give you a small preview of what kind of movies you will see in our book Greece at the Oscars, here are 2 of the new movies we added to the book this year, which were very successful movies this year, Poor Things by Yorgos Lanthimos and The Holdovers by Alexander Payne (Papadopoulos).
