FC Atlas are Mexican champions!

Just the other week the first part of the Mexican soccer season came to an end and FC Atlas, the club named after the Titan Atlas from Greek mythology, finished the regular season in 2nd place. That qualified them for the playoffs, and they went on to win and become Mexican champions for the first time in 70 years!

To celebrate this occasion, lets take a look at the story of Atlas, the Titan god who lead the Titan army during the Titanomachy (the Titan wars). When the Olympians beat the Titans, Zeus punished Atlas by making him hold the sky on his shoulders.

Since then Atlas has become a symbol recognizable by many, and his name is even linked to maps and globes, from the misconception that he is holding the earth on his shoulders (he is actually holding the skies and heavens symbolized by a globe).
