World Space Week & Hera mission

Published by Hellenic Moon on

This year for space week we will look at the Hera mission, the latest collaboration between ESA (European Space Agency) and NASA. Currently the planet has no defence against an asteroid hitting earth, and unless humanity wants to risk ending up like the dinosaurs, we need to come up with a defence plan.

And that’s what the Hera mission is all about. On Sept. 26 NASA crashed a satellite named DART into an asteroid to see if the impact could deflect the asteroid from its course. This test would be useful in knowing how to deflect future asteroids that might be heading towards earth. The Hera mission will go to study the results of the DART crash.
