    Ctesibius, a Greek inventor/mathematician living in Alexandria from 285 BC to 222 BC, known as the father of Pneumatics, is credited with a number of inventions, including a water pump, a more precise water clock , bronze spring and pneumatic catapults, several automatic machines, and more.
