Damn. I agree with you, it is quite a head-scratcher; however, that is the problem with myths. They are usually quite contradictory to each other. Do not worry about it, just enjoy it and take it for what it is!

If you think about it, the fall of the Greek Empire resulted in a mega power: The Romans. The fall of the Romans resulted in the barbaric empire. This empire turned into modern western society. That is extremely fascinating to see how the fall of a mega empire results into something larger.

My favourite one is by Richard Buxton. It is very simplified and does not try to make things excess complicated.

    I like that one!

There’s also the story of the constellation Corvus and how it lies in the night sky near Hydra the water snake and Crater the cup. Apollo sent Corvus to a spring with his cup for some water. But Corvus was distracted by some ripening figs, and was very late by the time he returned to Apollo with water. As an excuse, he brought Hydra in his claws and said that she was what had distracted him. Apollo, being the god of light and truth, wasn’t fooled. He banished Corvus, Hydra, and Crater to the sky, where they turn forever.

σε απάντηση του: Is Greek Mythology Relevant to Christians? #1704

First of all, I think anything can be relevant to Christians.

Secondly, Hades in the Scriptures just refers to “the place of the dead” which was another understanding they had for the word among the Greeks, whose language was used to write the New Testament.

It implies no endorsement of or connection to Greek mythology.

It’s like if we use the words Sunday, Monday, Tuesday … if you look it up, these words are based on Roman mythology. Because we use and understand them does not imply that we endorse or connect ourselves to Roman gods.

I am sorry, but for me, it was definitely the minotaur. Have you seen pictures of him?
